Are there any digital pianos available that can aid in learning piano,
such as by means of a read-out display?

A friend would like to buy one that will help him to learn how to play
piano.

Thanks.

I think your friend is fooling himself thinking that such a display will
actually help him learn to play piono, but I may have something like what
you seek. Earlier this year I designed an 8051-based MTC display that
listens to a MIDI stream for MIDI Time Code data and displays it. Perhaps
by designing a new display board, rewriting some of the code, and using the
CPU board could as is, one could achieve the desired result. Check it out
at http://www.gv.net/~mkesti/MTCdisplay/ and let me know if you're
interested.

I'd look for a Casio keyboard for that. Cheaper and will help with learning.
But don't go for expensive solutions...

there are also some home keyboards where the keys light up to show you how
to perform simple melodies etc. Not sure of the brand... but it might help.

Casio has such a model, with rather nice touch and style. Fairly
complex device.
